The collection contains workshop, financial and program related papers from the GLBT Alphabet Soup Conferences
The Midwest Bisexual Lesbian Gay College Conference also known as the "Alphabet Soup" or "Big Gay" Conference was established in Des Moines, IA in 1991. In discussion, several goals of the conference emerged. The goals of the conference are as follows: 1) To provide a safe and supportive forum for discourse about diverse issues of interest to queer students. 2) To educate participants about building activism, communities and accepting the differences in themselves and others. 3) To provide a place for networking among queer students and their allies. 4) To introduce queer students to new ideas and organizations to provide new ideas for programming on their respective campuses 5) To educate participants about HIV/AIDS prevention 6) To promote visibility of GLBTQA individuals and organizations throughout the Midwest. At the 2007 conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, an oversight committee was established to represent the previous, current and following conferences. The conference continues to travel throughout Colleges and Universities in the Midwest.
