Biographical Sketch of Max Seham (1888-1974)

Max Seham, M.D. (1910) University of Minnesota; clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Minnesota (1938-1963); director of the children's heart clinic at the Minneapolis General Hospital (now the Hennepin County Medical Center); director of the Lymanhurst Heart Clinic; chief of staff at Abbott and Mt. Sinai hospitals in Minneapolis. Published Blacks and American Medical Care(1973).

Max Seham was born on July 1, 1888 in Kovnow, Russia. His family emigrated to the United States when he was 6 years old. Seham earned his M.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1910 and began a private practice in Minneapolis (1910-1914) before going on to further study at Cornell University (1914-1916). He then continued his studies in pediatrics at Boston Infants' and Children's Hospitals (1916). Seham returned to the University of Minnesota's Medical School in 1919 and was appointed as clinical professor of pediatrics in 1938. In addition to his appointment at the University of Minnesota, Seham was the director of the children's heart clinic at the Minneapolis General Hospital, director of the Lymanhurst Heart Clinic, and chief of staff at Abbott and Mt. Sinai hospitals. Seham retired as clinical professor emeritus in 1963. He was a charter member of the Minnesota Society for Internal Medicine and a member of the White House Conference for Child Health and Protection (1937). Max Seham died in October 1974.
