Scope and Content Note

The collection contains books printed by Graywolf Press in the early days of the organization's existence. Most of the books in the collection are poetry chapbooks printed in Port Townsend, Washington. Several of the books are cloth, handbound, signed, and numbered.

Biographical Note

Scott Walker co-founded Graywolf Press in 1974 with Kathleen Foster. The press was first located in Port Townsend, Washington until moving to Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1984. Graywolf's first publications were rare and limited-edition chapbooks of poetry, many of which were printed and hand sewn by Walker himself. These earliest printings include the work of nationally renowned poets such as Tess Gallagher, Stanley Kunitz, and Philip Levine.
