The bulk of materials pertain to Song and Dance Man: The Art of Bob Dylan, Song and Dance Man III: The Art of Bob Dylan and Bob Dylan Encyclopedia.

Biographical Note

Michael Gray is a British author recognized foremost as an expert on the work of musician Bob Dylan. Born in 1946, Gray grew up in Merseyside, England. He graduated from the University of York in 1967 with a degree in History and English. In 1972 Gray published the first full-length study of Bob Dylan's work, Song and Dance Man: The Art of Bob Dylan. He spent the subsequent years working as a freelance writer until he became the Head of Press for United Artists Records (UK)Ltd. in 1977. This role led to personal management positions with Gerry Rafferty, Steve Diggle and Rab Noakes. By 1985, Gray had returned to writing and published Mother! The Story of Frank Zappa. Gray later co-edited a Dylan book, All Across the Telegraph: A Bob Dylan Handbookand co-authored The Elvis Atlas: A Journey through Elvis Presley's America.

The turn of the century saw the publication of two massive Dylan tomes, Song & Dance Man III: The Art of Bob Dylan(a significantly expanded edition of the book published in 1972) and The Bob Dylan Encyclopedia. In 2007, Gray published Hand Me My Travelin' Shoes: In Search of Blind Willie McTell. In addition to writing books, Michael Gray has contributed to numerous publications and delivered presentations at universities, festivals and the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame.
