Biographical / Historical

Syd(ney )Hoff was born in 1912 in New York, and he died in 2004. He began as a cartoonist in 1928 and expanded to illustrating in 1935, preferring to work in ink, washes, crayon and watercolor. He wrote and self-illustrated over 60 children's books and illustrated over twenty.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Pieces of the collection were given by Syd Hoff to Dr. Kerlan between 1959 and 1963, who in turn donated to the University, and others were donated directly to the University between 1965 and 1994.
