Biographical / Historical

Jean E. Karl was born July 29, 1927 in Chicago, Ill. She was an author and editor of children's books, known for her work in the science fiction genre. She was the founding editor of the of children and young adult's division at Atheneum in 1961 where she worked until her retirement in 1985. Her writings included science fiction titles for children, as well as non-fiction works on the history and publishing of children's books. Karl died in March 2000.
