Biographical Sketch

Allena Best was born in 1892 in New Bedford, Massachusetts. She attended the Albany School for Girls and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts as well as various art schools in New York and Paris. She began a career as an illustrator of books for young people and went on to write children's books as well. She wrote under the pseudonym Erick Berry. She also collaborated on books with her husband, Herbert Best. She died in 1974. Biographical Source: Something About the Author, v. 2, pp. 25-28, V. 25, p. 48.
