Scope and Contents

The collection contains production material for both published and unpublished titles produced between 1953-2001. The collection includes illustrations done in a variety of media many with separations and/or overlays, studies and sketches, layouts, dummies, proofs, notes, negatives, photocopies, jackets, some miscellaneous art and material, some production material for magazine illustrations, and drawings for a poster. A note in French for Gus et Poussinardand a holograph in Japanese for Pooh's Christmas. There is a small amount of correspondence.

Biographical Sketch

Gioia Fiammenghi was born September 29, 1929 in New York City. She grew up in a family where the arts were very important and began drawing as a child. She graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York City in 1950. She also attended the Art Student's League of New York on and off for many years. Gioia Fiammenghi work as an art director before she begin her work as a free-lance artist and illustrator. She illustrated her first children's book in 1953. Some of the authors she has illustrated for include Edward Fenton, Lilian Moore, Paul Gallico, Noel Streatfield, Phyllis R. Naylor, Eleanor L. Clymer, Michael Bond, Miriam Cohen, Thomas Rockwell, Robert K. Smith and Carlo Collodi. Gioia Fiammenghi currectly lives in Europe. Biographical Source: Something About the Author, vol. 66, p. 62-64

Accession Information:

Part of this collection was originally given to Dr. Irvin Kerlan, who in turn donated his collection to the University of Minnesota. Additional material was added to the collection by Gioia Fiammenghi starting in 1969.
