HISTORICAL SKETCH

The American Latvian Association was founded in 1951 and currently has about 10,000 members in 190 local groups. The organization's purpose is to unite and represent Latvians in the United States. The Association comprises four bureaus, for cultural affairs, information, relief and assistance, and sports. Publications include Kulturas Biroja Biletens; ALA Zurnals; ALA Vestis; and Latvian News Bulletin, as well as Sunday school textbooks.
