Abstract

Collection consists of chronicle and (mostly) copies of documents compiled by Edgar Zirna. There are also original documents from the district of Syracuse of the Buffalo St.Paul's congregation (membership papers, reports, correspondence) and the Estonian Youth Club "N" of Buffalo (minute book).

HISTORICAL SKETCH

EELK (Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church) Buffalo Congregation was founded in 1952. Elmar Pähn was the first pastor until 1962, then Aleksander Abel until his death in 1971, August Raidur from 1971 to 1974, Johan Teras 1974-1983, Albert Roost from 1984. Edgar Zirna was the chairman of the Church Council in 2014, Hannes Aasa served as the previous pastor. Buffalo Congregation started with 400 members, in the 1980s it diminished to 90 members.

PROVENANCE

Collection transferred to the IHRC from the Estonian Archives in the U.S.A. (EAU) in 2003-2005. It was processed as part of a collaborative project between the Estonian Archives in the USA (Lakewood, New Jersey), the National Archives of Estonia (NAE), the BaltherNet non-profit network, and the IHRC Archives in May 2014. Birgit Nurme and Pille Aguraiuja of the National Archives in Tallinn, Estonia, worked with IHRC staff on the project.
