Mount Sinai Hospital Auxiliary records
Mount Sinai Hospital opened in 1951 as a facility conceived and supported financially by Jewish donors in an effort to provide a place for Jewish physicians who were denied admitting privileges in other city hospitals. An auxiliary group primarily made up of women from the Jewish communities around the Twin Cities provided support through volunteering, publicity, and fundraising to aid the missions of the hospital.
Mount Sinai Hospital records
Following a push from the Jewish community post-World War II for a hospital that admitted practicing Jewish doctors, the Mount Sinai Hospital opened in Minneapolis in 1951 as the first non-sectarian hospital in the community to accept members of minorities on its medical staff. Led by a Board of Governors, the hospital eventually merged with Metropolitan Medical Center to become Metropolitan-Mt. Sinai before dissolving in 1991.
