Chase, Mary Ellen, 1887-1973

Collection contains the papers of James T. Hillhouse, professor of rhetoric and English at the University of Minnesota.

The Mary Ellen Chase papers consist of personal correspondence from Mary Ellen Chase to Mildred Hillhouse and her daughters (1936-1941); and Chase's letters to Mathilde Rice Elliott (1936-1967). Both women were friends that Chase made while teaching at the University of Minnesota.

The collection contains a partial manuscript for "The Prophets for the Common Reader" handwritten in a spiral notebook plus two letters and a copy of the published book.
