Biographical / Historical

The Lesbian News was founded in 1975 by Jinx Beers and is still in publiction. It is the longest running lesbian newspaper in the US and originally served the Southern California area. In 2017, Beers was inducted into the LGBTQ Journalists Hall of Fame in Philadelphia for her work with the Lesbian News. Beers also made the publication free and because she initially was not allowed to bring the publication into bars, she left it on the windshields of cars in lesbian bar parking lots instead. The Lesbian News is also commonly referred to as "LN" because Beers could not get a post office box or phone number for the "Lesbian News."
