Biographical / Historical

BLACKlines began publication in 1996 in Chicago, IL. It was published by Lambda Publications, which also published Windy City Times and Outlines. BLACKlines was a monthly newspaper for the Black LGBT community. It came about after Robert Ford, the creator of the zine Thing, passed away and the Chicago community lost its main source of Black LGBT news. Lambda Publications offered to start a new Black LGBT publication and the proposal was agreed to after a vote at the Generator nightclub. BLACKlines continued publication until 2004, when it was merged with En La Vida, Lambda Publication's newspaper for the LGBT Latino community, and the combined publication was renamed Identity. Identity later ceased publication.
