Biographical / Historical
BLK was created by Alan Bell in 1988. The publication was originally based in Los Angeles, though its readership quickly expanded to a national level. BLK was created for the African American LGBT community, with a particular focus on how the black gay community was impacted by the AIDS epidemic.
