Biographical / Historical

Diseased Pariah News (DPN) was a zine for people with AIDS published in San Francisco, CA from 1990 to 1999. It was originally created and edited by Beowulf Thorne and Tom Shearer. However, Shearer passed away in 1991 while putting together the second issue and Thorne passed away in 1999. Tom Ace joined the editing team in 1991 and continued to run the zine in their stead. The zine was unique in its dark humor take on the AIDS epidemic, which included comics such as "AIDS Barbie" and "Darn! One of Our Editors Is Dead!" In an interview with Vice, Ace describes the zine as "A combination of Spy and Good Housekeeping, for the HIV set," as the zine also included health tips along with its comics.
