Historical Note
The Minnesota Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) was established in 1992 by cellist Kevin Ford as America's first GLBT orchestra. MPO presents three classical concerts a year, a family-focused holiday concert in collaboration with the Twin Cities Women's Choir, salon performances and a pops concert. Much of the music performed by MPO is new music composed by members of the GLBT community, women and people of color. The mission of the Minnesota Philharmonic Orchestra is to "provide diverse arts entertainment of the highest quality, resulting in increased visibility for the musical talents of the GLBT community."
