This collection contains correspondence, biographical articles, clippings, and an interview with Stephen Endean, manuscripts for his book Into the Mainstream,and other personal writing. Special emphasis is given to Stephen Endean’s manuscripts.

Biographical Sketch

Stephen Robert Endean was born in 1948. He was a gay rights activist and he founded the Minnesota Committee for Gay Rights in 1971. He became one of the first Minnesota lesbian and gay rights lobbyists. In 1978 he became the first executive director and the lobbyist for the Gay Rights National Lobby. In 1982 he founded the Human Rights Campaign Fund and served as the first treasurer for the organization. He passed away from complications from AIDS in 1993.
