Biographical Sketch or Historical Note
THE LGBT Mental Health Provider's Network was initially formed in 1989 and sponsored by the Gay and Lesbian Community Action Council. Called the Lesbian and Gay Therapist's Network and later the Lesbian and Gay Mental Health Provider's Network, it provided an informal opportunity for mental health providers to exchange resources and network with each other. In 1995 the Network broadened its name and began the process of becoming a more formal membership organization and more independent of the Action Council. Its mission was to provide an opportunity for provide professional and social support; exchange resources and referral ideas; to provide continuing education; and affirm lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.
