Historical Note
The Jean-Nickolaus Tretter Collection in GLBT studies is named for its founder, Jean-Nickolaus Tretter. Tretter began a personal collection in 1979 with the 10th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. In 2000, he donated the collection to the University of Minnesota Libraries in an effort to provide the collection with greater resources for preservation, new acquisitions and to provide greater access to collection materials. The mission of the Tretter Collection is to provide a record of GLBT thought, knowledge and culture for current and future generations. The scope of the Collection is global, with materials in 58 different languages. Jean-Nickolaus Tretter served on staff for the collection until 2011. The material in the Tretter Collection Administrative Records chronicles the work of the Tretter Collection and its staff since its acquisition by the University of Minnesota Libraries to the present.
