Lloyd M. Short papers
Scope and Content
The Lloyd Short papers consists of personal and professional material from the beginning of his work in the Department of Political Science at the University of Minnesota in 1935 until his retirement in 1965. A bulk of the material includes associations, administrations and committees that Short was involved in, from 1924 to 1965, and includes material on his inclusion in the American Political Science Association and the Minneapolis Citizens’ League. Other documents include Short’s involvement in the Seoul National University (1955-1961) and the research produced during his directing of the Public Administration Center, now known as the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs. The remaining material within this collection miscellaneous material organized alphabetically by subject and contains Short’s work in Political Science and the University.

Biographical Sketch of Lloyd M. Short (1897-1981)
Lloyd Milton Short was born on 3 February 1897 in Knoxville, Illinois. He earned his B.A. from Knox College (Galesburg, Illinois) in 1919. He earned his M.A. in 1920 and Ph.D. in 1922 from the University of Illinois. After completing his Ph.D., Dr. Short worked as an associate professor of political science at the University of Akron (Ohio) for one year (1922-1923) before moving to the University of Missouri. He spent the next 12 years at the University of Missouri (1923-1935) as professor of political science and public law, department chair and assistant dean.
In 1935, Dr. Short joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota as professor of political science. He became the first director of the Public Administration Center (now known as the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs) in 1945. He became the chair of the political science department in 1952. Dr. Short retired from the University of Minnesota in 1965 as professor emeritus. Lloyd Short died on 19 December 1981.

This collection contains the papers of Lloyd M. Short, professor emeritus of the Department of Political Science and the first Director of the Public Administration Center (now the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs) at the University of Minnesota.
