Biographical Note

Audrey N. Grosch, B.A. (1955), M.A. (1956) University of Minnesota. Assistant Librarian (1957-1963) and Consultant (1963-1965), General Mills. Instructor (1965-1970), Assistant Professor (1970-1974), Associate Professor (1974-1978), Professor and Division Director (1978-1981), Professor and Assistant to the University Librarian for Information Systems (1981-1994), University of Minnesota.

Audrey Grosch was born January 10, 1934 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.A. in French language and history (1955) and an M.A. in library science (1956). Following positions with General Mills as an assistant librarian in the electronics division and as a consultant, Professor Grosch was named an instructor with the University of Minnesota Libraries in 1965. She was promoted to assistant professor in the Libraries’ Systems Division in 1970, to associate professor in 1974, and to full professor in 1978. That same year, Professor Grosch was named division director for the Library Services Division. In 1981, she began serving as Assistant to the University Librarian for Information Systems, a position she held until her death in 1994.

Professor Grosch was nationally recognized for her expertise in health sciences information issues, information systems and automation for libraries, and microcomputers in library settings. Through much of her career, she maintained an extensive consulting schedule, working with small and large corporations as well as public, corporate, and academic libraries.

For the Special Libraries Association, she served as chapter president (1961-1962) and a member of the association’s advisory council (1970-1972), chair of its standards committee (1980-1984), and chair of its documentation division (1971-1972). Professor Grosch was an active member of the American Society for Information Science (ASIS), serving the Minnesota chapter as chair (1968 and 1988-1989) and the national ASIS organization as president (1978).

Audrey Grosch died July 16, 1994 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
