Historical Note
The University of Minnesota Foundation was established in 1962 by 21 alumni and friends to solicit and manage private donations for the University, including University fund drives. Its establishment was the result of the reorganization of the University's fundraising activities and the dissolution of the Greater University Fund that was established in 1947. The office is not directly tied to any specific academic area and distributes funds across the University, including graduate research, faculty support, student scholarships and loans, library acquisitions, and academic programs.
