Biographical Sketch of Florence J. Julian (d. 1988)

Florence Julian, B.S. (1944) and M.NA. (1952), University of Minnesota. Faculty member (1944-1974), University of Minnesota School of Nursing. Assistant director of nursing services (1946-1952); director of nursing services (1952-1971); associate director of University Hospitals (1971-1974). Consultant to the Seoul National University nursing service and nursing school (1960-1961).

Florence Julian was born on June 10, 1912 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. From 1944-1946, she was a faculty member of the University of Minnesota School of Nursing. She was the assistant director of nursing services at University Hospitals and an assistant professor in the School of Nursing from 1946-1952. She participated in the 1951 W.K. Kellogg Foundation seminar at the University of Chicago, which developed the first graduate curriculum for nursing service administration. In 1952, she was appointed as director of nursing services and an associate professor. She served as consultant to the nursing service and nursing school at Seoul National University from 1960-1961. In 1971, she was appointed associate director of University Hospitals. She retired from the University of Minnesota in 1974 as professor emeritus. Florence Julian died on November 3, 1988.
