Biographical Sketch of Walter M. Lauer (1895-1976)
Walter McClellan Lauer was born on July 18, 1895 in Thomasville, Pennsylvania. He earned his B.A. from Ursinus College (Collegeville, PA) in 1913, his M.A. in 1917 and his Ph.D. in 1924 from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Lauer joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota as an instructor of chemistry in 1920; he was promoted to assistant professor in 1925, associate professor in 1935 and professor in 1939. His research focus was in organic chemistry, specifically semimicro combustion methods. Walter Lauer died on November 11, 1976.

Source of acquisition
The collection was donated to University Archives on April 26, 1977 by Professor Lauer's daughter, Jeanne Milton. An additional deposit was made on April 24, 1981.
