Office of the Vice President for Academic Administration records

The office of the Vice President for Academic Administration was established by the Board of Regents on June 12, 1943. Created along with the Office of the Vice President for Business Administration, the positions were to relieve President W.C. Coffey from administrative duties that had been assigned to the President's Office over the years. Malcolm Willey served as the first vice president for academic administration from 1943-1963 when he retired. William G. Shepherd, professor and head of the Department of Electrical Engineering, was appointed by the Board of Regents to the position of vice president on September 20, 1963. He resigned in 1973. In 1974 Shepherd was named the director of the University's Space Science Center and continued teaching until his retirement from the University in 1979.
