Scope and Content
The collection contains photographs, correspondence, department of civil engineering publications and newsletters produced by the class secretary. The collection also contains correspondence between members of the 1927 class and the department regarding the donation of several granite benches for the rotunda of the new Civil Engineering Building.

Historical Note
Abe J. Sperling was elected class secretary of the 1927 graduating class in civil engineering. Over the years he kept in contact with fellow alumni, organizing a yearly class reunion and created a newsletter. The last class reunion was held in 1995 and in 1998, many of the surviving members of the class donated granite benches for the rotunda area of the new Civil Engineering Building. Mr. Sperling assembled this collection of memorabilia from his time at the University of Minnesota in the 1920s until his death in 1997.
