Biographical Sketch of Alvin S. Cutler (b. 1879)
Alvin S. Cutler was born in Pittsford, Michigan in 1879. He attended Hillsdale College (Hillsdale, MI) and earned his degree in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1905. In 1907, he was appointed as an instructor in civil engineering at the University, and was promoted to assistant professor in 1909, associate professor in 1919, professor of railway and civil engineering in 1921. Professor Cutler served as chair of the department of civil engineering from 1943-1945. He retired from the University of Minnesota in 1947.
