Biographical Sketch of John J. Flather (1862-1926)
John Joseph Flather was born on June 9, 1862 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He earned his bachelor's degree from Yale University in 1885 and his master's degree in mechanical engineering from Cornell University in 1890. Flather became professor and head of the mechanical engineering department at the University of Minnesota in 1898; he was previously professor of mechanical engineering at Purdue University. John Flather died in May 1926.
