Biographical Sketch of Myrtle J. Eklund (1905-1970)

Myrtle J. Eklund, B.S. (1927), M.A. (1928) University of Minnesota.

Myrtle Eklund was born October 22, 1905 in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.S. in education (1927) and an M.A. with a major in political science and a minor in history (1928). Following two years teaching in St. Paul, Minnesota and Wakefield, Michigan, Eklund returned to the University of Minnesota in 1930 as a teaching and research assistant in the Department of Political Science and as a documents assistant in the Bureau of Research in Government. In 1936, she was appointed head of the Public Administration Library at the University of Minnesota, a post she held until her death in 1970.

She worked closely with the Municipal Reference Bureau and League of Minnesota Municipalities. From 1957 to 1962 Eklund assisted in determining the library needs of the new Graduate School of Public Administration at Seoul National University, through the University’s partnership with SNU and the International Cooperation Administration to advise SNU and to assist in the re-building of academic programs. She served as secretary-treasurer and on the national membership committee of the American Society for Public Administration. Eklund was a member of the Minnesota Library Association and a charter member of the Special Libraries Association.

Myrtle Eklund died July 11, 1970 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
