Scope and Content

The collection consists of punch cards containing data on pre WWII voting patterns in several German states, a speech entitled "The Graveyard of the Presidents", Shively's assessment of the University of Minnesota in in the 1990s, and his final departmental lecture, delivered in 2013.

Biographical Sketch or Historical Note

W. Phiilips (Phil) Shively was born in Lancaster PA March 31, 1942. he earnhed a BA degree from Franklin and marshall college in in 1963 and a PhD in Political Science from the University of north Carolina in 1968.

He was hired as an associate professor at the University of Minnesota in 1971, and was promoted to full professor in 1978. Prior to coming to Minnesota, he taught at the University of Oregon (1967-1968), and Yale
