Scope and Content
This collection contains American Studies Association Convention (1979); correspondence, program and short history of Twin Cities development and points of interest (written by Norene Roberts); information on the American Studies Association Job Seeking Workshop; American Studies course materials including syllabi, course notes and papers; correspondence from Mary Turpie about the American Studies program and biographical information; Norene Roberts correspondence and dissertation notes for her Ph.D. thesis entitled An early political and administrative history of the University of Minnesota, 1851-1884. A University of Minnesota survey includes a summary and timeline of Minneapolis campus buildings and a thumbnail sketch of University campuses for the State Historic Preservation Study of University buildings. Minnesota Architecture-History Inventory forms for each building have been placed in the building files located in University Archives.

Biographical Sketch of Norene Roberts (b 1945)
Norene Ann Bagnall Roberts, B.A. (1968) University of Massachusetts, M.A. (1972), Ph.D. (1978) University of Minnesota. Ph.D. thesis topic was on the early history of the University of Minnesota.
Norene Roberts was born on June 21, 1945 in Northampton, Massachusetts. She received her B.A. in English from the University of Massachusetts in 1968. In 1972 she received her M.A. and in 1978 her Ph.D. both in American Studies from the University of Minnesota. Her dissertation was entitled The Early Political and Administrative History of the University of Minnesota, 1851-1884. She taught courses in the English Department, the American Studies program and in Continuing Education for Women at the University of Minnesota from 1968-1977. Some of her courses included Introductory, Intermediate and Advanced Composition; Religion in the United States; National Identity; and International Roles of Women in Literature.
