The first episode of the weekly call-in program “Health Talk and You” aired on November 10, 1987 and continued for sixteen seasons until 2003. Each program was devoted to a specific health related topic. The show was hosted by a physician along with a panel of experts. Dr. Paul Quie was the original host from 1987 to 1996. Dr. Greg Vercellotti hosted the program from 1996 through 2003.
The show was produced in partnership between the Academic Health Center and University Media Resources until 2001 when it was fully produced by the AHC. Additional production assistance came from the University of Minnesota Hospital and Clinics Fairview and the Minnesota Medical Foundation. The mission of the program was to provide the communication of timely, credible information about health to the public via television.
During the show’s run, nearly 500 individual episodes were produced with over 1,200 health professionals as guest participants. Estimated market shares ranged from 1,500 – 18,000 viewers a week during the show’s history. The show aired on local PBS affiliates KTCA Channel 2 and KTCI Channel 17.
