Historical Note
The Block and Bridle Club was formed May, 24, 1915. It was organized by the students of the College of Agriculture in cooperation with Dr. Carl W. Gay, head of the Department of Animal Husbandry. Its purpose is to stimulate interest in livestock work by holding judging and showmanship contests, and offering prizes to students for winning these events. In 1923 the Block and Bridle Club took over an annual livestock show that had been previously run by the campus Livestock Club. At that time the livestock show was named Ag Royal. In 1950, the Block and Bridle Club left their responsibilities as the hosts of Ag Royal, but remained participants in the show. In 1952, the show was renamed Litchi Geshig, and it was renamed again in 1956 as Minnesota Royal. The Block and Bridle Club is a national organization.
