Historical Note of Alpha Delta Sigma. Samuel C. Gale Chapter

Alpha Delta Sigma is a national professional advertising fraternity, its purpose being to provide its members with an atmosphere of advertising unobtainable through educational courses alone. The Minnesota chapter was established circa 1959, and was named in honor of Samuel Chester Gale 1895-1961 vice president and director of advertising for General Mills, Inc. from 1921-1955. Samuel Gale graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1917 with a B.S. in chemistry. However his father Harlow Stearns Gale, a psychology professor at the University, 1894-1903, conducted studies on the psychology of advertising and influenced Samuel Gale's interest in advertising. In 1952 Samuel Gale received an Outstanding Achievement Award from the University of Minnesota.

Alpha Delta Sigma is listed in the University'sStudent/Staff Directoryunder Student Organizations from 1960/61 through 1971/72. Samuel Gale was the organization's advisor in 1960/61.
