Historical Note
The Water Resources Research Center was established through the graduate school on October 19, 1964 with support from the United States Water Resources Research Act. (1) As one of the forty-four similar centers within the nation at that time, the Water Resources Research Center began researching the effects of water resource problems and to coordinate this research with not only state and federal agencies, but also other universities and organizations within Minnesota. (1) It also began creating additional courses to help train graduate students and local researchers to advance the study of water resource development. (1) These trainings have continued to this day through onsite programs, workshops and conferences such as the Minnesota Water Resources Conference and the Water Resources Assembly and Research Symposium. (2) Since its inception the Water Resources Research Center has produced valuable data and research in water resources as it relates to agriculture and the environment, wastewater, supply and quality and through social policy, both locally and nationally. (2)
