Biographical / Historical

Lewis Ginsburg was born in 1924 in Minneapolis. He grew up in North Minneapolis and attended North High School. He worked as city editor of the American Jewish World newspaper for a time, and completed his rabbinic training in 1952. He served as rabbi at Kenesseth Israel Congregation in Minneapolis before serving for more than 20 years at Beth Israel Congregation in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He retired from the pulpit in 1986 and passed away in 1993 at the age of 69.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

This collection was donated by the Jewish Historical Society of Southern Alberta in August 2022. The materials were gifted to the historical society by Beth Israel Congregation in Calgary, Alberta, where he served. The Jewish Historical Society of Southern Alberta kept the materials as they related to Canadian history, and donated the Minnesota-related materials to UMJA.
