Scope and Contents

This collection consists of personal and military materials from Jerry Weinberg as well as materials and memorabilia from the Weinberg Hardware Store. This includes: World War II diaries and photos; legal documents, photos and memorabilia from the Weinberg Hardware and its predecessors; and booklets about the West 7th Street neighborhood.

Biographical / Historical

Gerald "Jerry" Weinberg was born April 24, 1921 in St. Paul, Minnesota to parents Nathan and Ethel "Ann." He ran a hardware business with his father at 423 West Seventh Street in Saint Paul for years, called Weinberg Hardware and then Weinberg Brothers, Inc. A second store opened on Rice Street in Saint Paul where they sold appliances. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army Signal Corps and entered active service in 1943 as a radio mechanic specialist but was eventually reclassified as a radio operator. He was stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines and eventually left active service in 1945.

Jerry passed away in 2007.
