Biographical / Historical

Alex Tankenoff was born on the West Side of St. Paul in 1905 to parents Sarah and Sam. Despite growing up poor and never finishing high school, he was a successful businessman, having over his career: acquired Bloomer Brewery, building and running Hillcrest Shopping Center, and operating finance offices. He was also founder of the Minnesota chapter of Anti-Defamation League, on the board of trustees at Hillel at the University of Minnesota, and was also the president of Hillcrest Country Club.

Alex was married to Mollie (Oglansky), and they had daughter Joyce (Malmon) and sons Gary and Jim.

Alex passed away in 2006.
