Biographical / Historical
Jewish Community Action is a non-profit organization that brings together members of the Jewish community in alliance with diverse communities to act on issues of social, economic and racial justice. Founded in 1995 under the name Jewish Metropolitan Organizing Project, the name changed to Jewish Community Action in 1996. The organization's office was first located in Minneapolis and then relocated to St. Paul in 2000. Jewish Community Action used community organizing strategies and tactics that included an Inreach and assembly to determine the work the organization would do. Over the first 10 years, the organization's budget significantly expanded and its membership grew substantially as well. As the organization grew, it worked on campaigns related to marriage equality, voter ID, workers rights, minimum wage, affordable housing, immigrant rights, racial justice and criminal justice.
