E. Hoffmann Price Memoir Manuscripts
Scope and Content Note
The collection contains photocopies of typescripts for two sets of memoirs written by Price: Trooper of the 15th Horseand Friends of Yesteryear: Fictioneers and Others.The latter has been published as Books of the Dead; Friends of Yesteryear: Fictioneers & Others, edited by Peter Ruber and published by Arkham House in 2001. The manuscripts include biographical essays about many of the writers that he knew.

Biographical Sketch for E. Hoffmann Price (1898-1988)
E. Hoffmann Price was born in California, educated at the US Military Academy, and served in World War I in the US Cavalry. He turned to full time writing in the 1930s and was a prolific writer of pulp fiction including adventure, western, and weird fiction. During his career, Price published for many different publications, most notably the magazine Weird Tales, where he published 24 stories between 1925 and 1950. He published a wide variety of works, but was most known for his works with Oriental settings and atmospheres. He was friends with many writers of the great pulp magazine fiction era, including H. P. Lovecraft and August Derleth. During his career, he published a work titled Through the Gates of the Silver Key, in collaboration with H.P. Lovecraft. In 1984, Price received the World Fantasy Lifetime Achievement Award. Price died in 1988.
