Biographical / Historical
Clarence Clough Buel was an American author and editor who lived from 1850 to 1923, known for his various positions at different publications and most notably for his work with Robert Underwood Johnson on the book Battles and Leaders of the Civil War, published in 1887. During Buel’s life, he worked as an editor at the New York Tribune from 1875 to 1881, followed by a position at Century Magazine. While at Century Magazine, Buel collaborated with Robert Underwood Johnson on articles on the American Civil War, which was then compiled to create the book Battles and Leaders of the Civil War. During Buel’s time at Century Magazine, he served as Associate Editor from 1909 to 1913, and became Advisory Editor starting in 1914.
