Abbey DeLisle holding cloth masks, #MaskUpMN, June 2020
Scope and Contents
Abbey DeLisle at a free community mask distribution event organized by the Duluth chapter of the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). DeLisle is holding two plastic bags containing cloth masks, and is wearing gloves, a cloth mask, and a Black Lives Matter t-shirt. The photographer describes the image: “This photograph features Abbey DeLisle, a member of the Duluth Branch NAACP’s Health Committee and a Physician Assistant (PA) student at a local university. We worked together in distributing free facemasks to community members across Duluth once a week. Abbey has volunteered for all 14 give-aways and is set to help at future distributions. She’s pretty inspiring and is committed to increasing community health for everyone, especially during this pandemic. At this particular distribution, she was wearing her “Black Lives Matter” t-shirt and I really wanted to take this photograph as it speaks to recent, and past, police killings of unarmed Black and Brown men and womxn including George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and countless others as well as so many other injustices that continue to happen to BIPOC individuals and communities.” This image is related to "Interview with Ivy Vainio"
