Biographical / Historical
Matthew Carroll, with his wife, was the proprietor of the American House in Duluth. The American House was located at 395 Lake Avenue South, at the northeast corner of Lake Avenue and Buchanan Street in what is now known as Canal Park. In 1881 Matthew Carroll was elected alderman to represent the First Ward of the Village of Duluth.
