Caswell & Davy photographs
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of photographs by Caswell & Davy. The photographs are of Superior Street from 1st or 2nd Avenue West, looking east up the hill and down toward the water; also, there is a photograph of the steamer "Arizona" from 1868. The condition of the photographs vary. Some are faded black and white albumen prints, stained, with rough, tattered edges and some are in excellent condition. No negatives are present.

Biographical / Historical
William Caswell (-1910) and William Henry Davy (1844-1936), photographers, arrived in Duluth from Canada in May of 1870. They opened a studio in the Pendleton Building on Superior Street between First and Second Avenues West. Dissolution of their partnership was reported on September 11, 1875, but William Davy carried on in the business.
