Scope and Contents
The collection consists of correspondence and subject files of Director Richard Kunz; Minnesota Chemical Dependency Association Board minutes, newsletter, and section minutes for Region II; research files; newsclipping scrapbook for the Center; a small amount of Center office records; and local, state, and national published materials on durg and alcohol use, abuse, treatment, policy, law and issues. The collection reflects the shift in public and professional attitudes from the drinker as a "drunk" to the assessment of alcoholism as a disease. The collection does not include case files.

Biographical / Historical
The Center for Alcohol and Drug Problems changed its name to the Center for Alcohol & Drug Treatment in September 1989. The name was chosen to reflect a shiftging emphasis toward providing licensed treatment programs for chemically dependent persons. The Center was established September 1, 1961, as a private non-profit corporation. Its purpose is to provide chemical health, substance abuse, addiction treatment & recovery services. The Center's current services include: Detoxification Services, Residential Treatment Services, Intensive Outpatient Treatment Services, Medium Intensity Residential Programs, Rule 25 Placement Assessments & Individual Counseling, Mental Health & Recovery Program, Woodland Hills Adolescent Treatment Program, Northeast Regional Corrections Center Outpatient Treatment Program, Assisted Recovery Program, and the New San Marco Group Residential Housing.
