Biographical / Historical
Colder by the Lake Comedy Theatre company was founded in Duluth by writer and director Margi Preus in 1983. Preus stepped down as artistic director in 2002, and Jean Sramek, her longtime collaborator and one of the original cast members, became the new artistic director at that time.
The theater’s tongue-in-cheek website explains their full name “Colder by the Lake Comedy Theatre …… you know it’s real theater when it’s spelled ‘theatre’” and gives a short history: “Since 1983, Colder by the Lake has worked with original and adapted material for the stage and for broadcast. In the future, we hope to transfer our material directly to the brains of our audience members via as-yet unpatented technology.” http://www.colderbythelake.com/
