Scope and Contents

The collection contains correspondence, certificates of awards and membership, medical articles (1913-1947) authored by Collins, photographs of Collins' paintings, general photographs, and genealogical information. Most of the correspondence concerns Collins' interest in genealogy. The collection includes an account book (1807) of Samuel Collins, a family ancestor, and a large roll of diplomas and certificates.

Biographical / Historical

Dr. Arthur N. Collins was born in Dubuque, Iowa on September 12, 1876, son of Walter F. and Lydia (Mead) Collins. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1902, and received his medical degree at Harvard four years later. He served at the Mayo Clinic until 1908, when he began a practice in Duluth, Minnesota after marrying Florence Edna Johnson of Minneapolis. He was a member of a number of medical associations, and also participated in many Duluth civic organizations.
