Scope and Contents

The collection holds records of the three local chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution: in Duluth, Greysolon duLuth Chapter; in Superior, Wisconsin, Claude Jean Allouez Chapter; in Duluth, Daughters of Liberty Chapter.

Materials include minutes, annual reports, bylaws, membership lists and applications, photographs, programs, treasurer's reports and budgets, yearbooks and scrapbooks.

Four boxes of In Process records, 1892-1950s, primarily of the Daughters of Liberty Chapter of Duluth, include minutes; bylaws; membership lists and applications; historian, regent, and treasurer's volumes; scrapbooks.

Biographical / Historical

The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is an organization whose membership is limited to women who "can prove lineal, blood line descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence." Goals of the DAR are patriotism, education and historic preservation. It was founded in 1890 by Eugenia Washington, great-grand niece of George Washington.

Local chapters include: Claude Jean Allouez Chapter, Superior, Wisconsin; Daughters of Liberty Chapter, Duluth; Greysolon duLuth Chapter, Duluth.
