Biographical / Historical

The organization began in June, 1922 under the name of Duluth Association of Occupational Therapy, for the purpose of promoting occupational Therapy in the Duluth area. The first five years saw expansion which necessitated relocating the offices several times. In 1927 the group was joined by another local organization, the Duluth Committee for Crippled Children, and together they became the Duluth Association for the Physically Handicapped. The organization has played as instrumental part in getting Occupational Therapy Departments established in Duluth hospitals, and together with the Junior League, opened the Duluth Rehabilitation Center in 1951.
